This site is not really about me, its more about those people who look at Country music as being bow legged cowboys riding off into the sunset with a six pack and a broken heart, I am always meeting people who tell me they hate Country music but like groups or artists who are countrified, its just that these people do not understand country (Shania Twain being a perfect example of crossover country) along with others that I have listed below (and there are many more)
As for me, I try to include groups and tracks that most people would not associate with country like: Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Crosby, Stills, Nash &Young, Bon Jovi, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Ronan Keating, Marc Knopfler, Van Morrison and many many more.
Even thought my show is somewhat short (many country DJ, s will be on the floor laughing) the amount of people listening is slowly creeping up. So what can Luxembourg offer in the way of country music *NOTHING* really except a few people trying like Buffalo C Wayne and Dave Whyte, Crunch and Kantriklapp (to name all of them?) and a company who tried to organize a giant festival and went down the drain. Nobody, no technicians, no musicians and no band got paid!
We do have a country line dance group called the Mavericks (none are American) and they are very good, but our best export is Buffalo C. Wayne better known as "The European Texan"; check out some of his videos and CD's; Buffalo is a native Luxembourger who grew up in two worlds, Europe and Texas; " he is pretty dam good!" Please, check out: www.buffalo-c-wayne.com
As for Dave Whyte, nobody knows where he is (if you see him, let us and his wife know) Even though we give credit to the "greenhorn"-organizer at Roeser Campgrounds for having the guts staging a large country festival, so big that you needed a tractor to get around; sadly not many people went, even though they did a lot of hard work to organize the event, it was to say the least a big disaster resulting in them going bankrupt. We also had a bar in Luxembourg City called "The Boomer Café" which was sort of country music orientated for some time, at least regarding the music, but French speaking staff really took the edge of the idea, the bar-owner was known to be crooked and very unfriendly with customers and music groups, then "The Boomer Café" closed down and got replaced by a more locally excepted bar/cafe.
Live music is again becoming very popular in bars and cafés, but country bands remain in the background, with blues/folk and jazz being very popular. Hopefully in the not to distant future I will be getting some give-away,s so check out my site from time to time (maybe you will win something)
